What does a girl wear with her $3,000+ chair?!?!

The title of this blog entry is actually misleading. As the "chair" in question is in reality a set of two-chairs that have been marked down at Room (25 N. Moore Street) from $6,640 (for the set) to $3,870... but that minor detail doesn't really make a difference does it!?!? Chances are that whoever's buying a set of chairs for nearly $4,000, they're going into a spacious TriBeCa loft, and most likely money is no object (pure speculation on my part, of course!). Lucky for me, I don't have the space (not to mention $$$$)  for such fine furnishings, otherwise I'd be obsessing all day long, and most likely succumb to the pressure of wearing my finest garb at all times, for the fear of being upstaged by a pair chairs! Nonetheless, I did put together a ritzy outfit, for a fashionable loft owner, who, unlike myself, may one day face a dilemma of fitting in with the surroundings of her newly decorated home!

it's a small world afterall - a true story of two tribeca neighbors and vintage couture

Somewhat unexpectedly, I came into possession of two vintage Lanvin couture red carpet worthy pieces that are quite a valuable commodity, especially if the right celeb stylist gets their hands on them! A hard sell to a mostly on-line customer base, I set out to find a home for these two stunners. My first (and for the moment) only stop was Keni Velenti himself, with whom I spoke once before a number of years ago when I was trying to unload a vintage Zandra Rhodes (similar scenario). For those of you who may not know, Keni is the go-to-king when it comes to vintage couture, so once again he was my obvious first choice. There is a cosmic connection here that I am getting to... so thank you for being patient, while I laid out the scenario. Anyway to make a long story short, in the course of our conversation it becomes evident that not only do we share a common love for couture, but we also share an elevator, lobby, and dry cleaner, as Keni and I have lived in the same building for 17 years (as long as I've been here!). If that's not a New York story worth retelling, than I don't know what is????

mommy chic... a la Jessica Alba! forget the bugaboo and break out the burberry -

So it looks like there was some commotion on West Broadway the other day, when Jessica Alba took a neighborhood stroll and ended up at one of my frequented neighborhood spots, Petit Abeille. Let's just say she fit right in stroller and all, TriBeCa is notorious for being a baby mecca to some of the best dressed moms in the city! Looking modern, stylish and chic, but like you're not-even-trying is actually harder than you may think! Want to add a little downtown edge to your daily mommy uniform, here are some pieces I came up with that will make you look like you're totally "with it", but without looking completely over dressed!!!

Oh Adeline-Adeline, what does a girl wear with her $1,000 TriBeCa bicycle?

So by now, no doubt, you've already heard (or read) about this amazing new bicycle shop that's made a home for itself on Reade Street in TriBeCa. That's right, Adeline-Adeline has been getting plenty of buzz, all thanks to their old-fashioned, European style cruisers that DO NOT come cheap. Which brings me to question what does a girl wear on her $995 bicycle from Adeline-Adeline. Poppy is a fashion-statement all in itself, and a true fashionista cannot have her bicycle looking better than she does, can she now? But to justify a nearly $1,000 purchase with an even more spendy outfit to go with it would surely be ludicrous, so I put together a budget friendly, high-fashion ensemble that couldn't be better suited for a weekend bike ride with you honey!!!

itsy, bitsy, teeny, weeny, little (no polka dots) bright yellow (Dolce & Gabbana) string bikini!!!!

Even though, it may not seem like it today (at least here in NYC) on a cold, dreary Sunday, let's be realistic hot balmy weather will be here to stay before we know it, and you'll be off partying in the Hamptons every chance you get! So think of this as just a gentle reminder that it's time to get into the swimsuit mode... especially for all you girls who've been working so hard on your beach bodies all winter, don't let this bright yellow cutie slip away --- have you seen this season's whopping bathing suit prices yet??? It's a total steal, from Dolce & Gabbana, no less....  thank you anyasol for featuring it!!!!

Celebrity Central... The TriBeCa Film Festival is upon us

Michael & Victoria Imperioli, Edie Falco, Robert DeNiro & Grace Hightower, James Gandolfini, Deborah Lin & son Michael Gandolfini, Ed Burns & Christy Turlington, Rachel Roy, Harvey Keitel & Daphna Kastner, Kelly Bensimon w/daughters Sea & Teddy

With the TriBeCa Film Festival generating mucho buzz this week, the place to be last night for movie stars, moguls, models, media machers, and other quintessential New York characters was the portico of the State Supreme Courthouse, at 60 Centre Street, where Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, Revlon C.E.O. Ronald Perelman, and acting legend Robert De Niro co-hosted the kick-off party for the eighth annual Tribeca Film Festival (vanity fair).

I too got a little caught up in the hype and couldn't wait to see photos from the opening party and various screenings. Seeing the faces of my famous neighbors (and clients, though I will never tell!), made me feel honored to share the triangle below Canal Street with these immensely gifted people whose individual talents I can't help but be in awe of!

But now let's get to the fashion! A-listers like Cameron Diaz, Amanda Seyfried, and Rashida Jones are popping up all over town at red carpets, but they are not the only ones. Mere mortals, like my good friend Susan who may not be a Hollywood starlet, but will be hitting plenty of premiers and fancy TFF parties will need to look spectacular in her own right! So I went out on a limb, and styled two tres high-fashion looks that won't drain Susan's bank account, but will keep her looking equally fashion-fabulous when she's rubbing elbows with film industry elites!!!!!

Thank you Polyvore stylistas for yet again featuring couture pieces from

Nearly two years ago, when by sheer accident I discovered Polyvore I was instantly hooked. What an amazing concept!!!! Talk about virtual merchandising --- it is heaven sent, be it for business or pleasure, this is a tool which has turned e-commerce on its head (and only for the better!). The press has finally caught on as well, and Polyvore is generating plenty of buzz, which is why I find it so thrilling when any number of stylistas feature a Resale-Riches couture piece in one of their sets for the world to see!!!!

NY Academy of Art 2010 TriBeCa Ball... "upscale downtown" what would you wear?

Jennifer Connelly & Paul Bettany, Helena Christensen, Hilary Rhoda, Rebecca Minkoff,
Olivia Palermo, Alexandra Richards and Theodora Richards

With Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany, serving as honorary chairs of the New York Academy of Art 2010 TriBeCa Ball last Tuesday, celebrity aristocracy, of sorts, arrived all decked out in their own interpretation of "upscale downtown". Despite the convoluted and somewhat archaic distinction between uptown/downtown, the celebrity attendees were dressed perfectly for the occasion, with Olivia Palermo in Rachel Roy and Helena Christensen in Miu Miu. The evening began with an open studio portion, where guests were able to explore the workspaces of the artists whose work they were supporting. Following the studio tour, guests were seated for dinner, followed by dancing  (guest of a guest).

I too was intrigued by the "upscale/downtown" dress code, and decided to put together a variety of more budget accessible couture looks, for those of you who just may be lucky enough to get on the guest list next year!!!!

Jill & LuAnn really had to shake Ramona down for a couture piece...

I am sure I wasn't the only one who picked up on the fact that Ramona was trying to unload some cheapo jogging suits for LuAnn's upcoming charity event on tonight's episode of The Real Housewives of New York. I had to chuckle, knowing full well that Ramona had no intentions of giving up the major stuff, considering that a consignment shop, like Resale-Riches can get her a great return on her designer duds. But, I was glad to see her part with that shiny gold evening gown. As for LuAnn, did she really donate a $2,800 Lanvin number, or was it just clever editing...
